Apple Invites App for iPhone Updated — Here's What's New

With the latest version of the Apple Invites app for the iPhone, released today, hosts can now allow guests to specify the number of adults and kids they are bringing to an event. This way, the guest will not be surprised if you bring a plus-one.

The update also contains bug fixes and performance improvements.

Released earlier this year, the Apple Invites app makes it easy to invite people to events, such as birthday parties and baby showers. First, you create an event invitation, which can include a description, a custom background, and even a shared photo album. Then, you can generate a link to the event that you can share with invited guests.

The ability to create an event in the app is limited to iCloud+ subscribers, but anyone who receives an event link can RSVP for free. In the U.S., the cheapest iCloud+ plan with 50GB of storage currently costs 99 cents per month.

Apple Invites is available on the iPhone, and on the web at iCloud.com/invites. Guests can RSVP in the iPhone app, or on the web from any device.

How long before companies making data harvesting “invite” web sites complain to the EU that Apple, by creating a service that doesn’t automatically put users on tons of mailing lists, is anti-competitive?

I’ve tried a few times, and while it works well to create the invitation and to send them to people with iPhone, my non-Apple family members couldn’t view the invitation even though it should work. Made it pointless lol now it’s fun to plan date nights

I can confirm that Apple uses this app for invites to its events as I have used it with the. Not one person in my life has though ever asked me about it.

I feel this will go the way of many of their apps like Clips. These features should like just be integrated into Calendar.

That would be more useful.

Does this even work with non-iPhones? My parents don't have smartphones; would it work via web/email? I don't care enough to even download it find out, but it seems like a huge waste of time on Apple's part.

What a stupid comment. EU will have a problem if apple creates this, but blocks another apps with similar functionality from operating on iPhone. Nothing less, nothing more. You don't have to download it or use it, but Apple needs to allow 3rd parties the same functionality as it allows itself.

It feels like an experiment - some kind of internally developed app by a small team that might be made an extension to the calendar app in the future. Maybe a test to see how rapidly they can make these kinds of things..

I tried it one time. People (I think non-apple people?) had to create an account to RSVP, so none of them did. People either didn't respond and just came (or didn't) or they just texted me if they were coming. No one wants to make an account for this.

I'm glad they haven't completly forgotten about this app, but limiting invite creation to iCloud subscribers is STUPID! This app will simply never take off if they limit it like that. Can't they see this? I just cannot believe they're still doing that.
